Social Action
In March of 1913, nearly six weeks after its founding, several Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Founders marched in the historic Suffragist March under the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Banner, the Sorority’s first public act. Each of Delta’s programmatic initiatives has an advocacy component that is implemented under the auspices of social action when it is appropriate or necessary to do so.
Our mission is:
- Political Awareness and Involvement
- Address issues that affect public policy, economic viability and social justice
- Promote leadership, advocacy, and empowerment among members to bring about effective solutions to challenges
- Establish positions on emerging or perennial public issues determines appropriate response, and direct the actions of members and chapters
Glen Ellyn Area Alumnae Chapter increases our members’ knowledge of current local, state, and national issues so that every Delta will be an informed and effective citizen, advocate, and voter. We influence the enactment of legislation, both national and local.
Glen Ellyn’s Social Action agenda includes:
- Voter Education & Registration
- Economic Survival
- Quality Education
- Keeping our Connection to the African Diaspora
Our programs received award-winning recognition at our 49th Regional Conference (2020) & 53rd National Convention (2017).
